Digital thermometers do not use mercury like traditional thermometers but instead determine the temperature by using heat sensors, they can be used to take the temperature of various different locations.
Based on the idea that the metals resistance changes as the temperature shifts. When the metals get hotter, the atoms that make it up vibrate more violently, making it harder for the electricity to flow, and thus, the resistance increases. In turn, as the metals cool down, the electrons are able to move more freely and the resistance decreases.
