Insulation testers are used to prevent the risk of electrical shock or fire. To identify current leakage and faulty or damaged insulation a high voltage, low current DC charge is used to measure the resistance inside the wires and motor windings. This will in turn prevent blown circuits, arc faults, etc.
For safety purposes, all equipment and circuits must be established as electrically de-energized before you can add an insulation resistance tester to the in-use equipment.
